The Vergnano Institute for Impact is committed to fostering connection and passion in the engineering and STEM fields. The Vergnano Institute is proud to offer a wide variety of programs to support undergraduate students at any stage of their academic and professional journeys. We welcome students of all walks of life, and seek to build a rich and encompassing environment where we foster different avenues of building a well educated and intellectually diverse STEM community. In this approach, we ensure that when our students and peers are in the field, they can share those UConn Husky values to inspire and encourage others to do the same. Student Organizations
Colorstack UConn
UConn Colorstack is a supportive organization created to help minorities in Computer Science Students to complete their degrees and gain rewarding technical careers. Students find community and support for technical, academic, and professional development.
Engineering Ambassadors UConn
UConn Engineering Ambassadors is one of the four founding universities of the National Engineering Ambassadors Network. Every year, UConn Engineering Ambassadors facilitates STEM outreach to K – 12 students across the state, provides tours to prospective UConn engineering students, and builds spaces for students to find community within the College of Engineering – all while helping students grow professional skills.
Engineers Without Borders UConn
The UConn Chapter of Engineers Without Borders seeks to provide UConn students with experiential education opportunities by linking them with international engineering projects that benefit disadvantaged communities. This includes collaborating with professional engineers and training students to design, plan, and implement sustainable projects – all providing members with valuable real-world skills, while giving those we serve a better quality of life.
National Sociery of Black Engineers UConn
The UConn chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers seeks to increase AND RETAIN the number of minority students studying engineering (including advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and professional engineering registrations). Through community building, academic and professional development resources, mentor-mentee opportunities, and more – UConn NSBE looks to stimulate and develop student interest in engineering.UConn NSBE also seeks to function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black Engineers.
Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers UConn
Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) – prepares Asian heritage scientists and engineers for success in the global business world through networking events with executives from top organizations, professional development conferences, industry panels, and workshops for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as young professionals.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers UConn
The UConn SHPE chapter, founded in 1997 and revitalized in 2000, is committed to academic excellence, professional development, and building strong community ties. It aims to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, mentor-mentee opportunities, and professional and academic development. Students have the opportunity to attend the SHPE National Convention, connecting members directly with internship and full-time job opportunities.
Society of Women Engineers UConn
UConn SWE supports the professional interests of engineering students in their academic and professional pursuits, as well as emphasises building community for those who are underrepresented in the field. UConn SWE is dedicated to cultivating strong leaders through mentorships program and leadership opportunities. Members get involved through social events, outreach initiatives, and more.
Student Programs
BRIDGE Program
BRIDGE is a five-week intensive summer program held at the Storrs campus. This program is designed to prepare incoming first-year UConn students in engineering fields for the rigor of engineering curriculum at UConn, introduce leadership opportunities and careers in engineering, and to familiarize students with the University of Connecticut and the college experience as a whole.

This program is based on real-world challenges and insights from The Cigna Group employees, ensuring practical, industry-relevant learning and engagement.
On TRAC for Transfer Year Summer
On TRAC for Transfer Year Summer is a summer experience for students entering their ~3rd year as they transfer into UConn or transition from a regional campus into a STEM major. This program provides the academic preparation, community connection, and hands‑on experience needed to make a strong, confident start in UConn’s rigorous STEM pathways. Sharing the same high‑impact Practicum Experiences as Sophomore Summer, On TRAC supports students in building momentum before their first full semester at Storrs.
Sophomore Summer Bridge
Sophomore Summer Bridge prepares students finishing their first year in Engineering, Pre-Engineering, or other related STEM fields for future courses and opportunities. Current sophomores and non-degree students may also find value in this program. Students will prepare for upcoming challenging courses, develop internship/research skills, and form a productive community amongst valuable figures and peers.
VIIBE Mentoring Circles
We know that being in STEM is about more than just labs and lectures – it’s about finding your people and your “why.” Circles are small, identity-affirming communities where STEM students journey together with peers, alumni, faculty, and staff. Members learn from one another, share experiences, and build skills in a supportive environment while fostering connections, encouraging open dialogue, and developing personally and professionally.
