This page is for students who have been ACCEPTED INTO THE BRIDGE PROGRAM.

Congratulations on your acceptance! We are thrilled to welcome you to the BRIDGE family at the University of Connecticut. This journey marks the beginning of an exciting and transformative experience, where you’ll connect with fellow students, explore the vast world of engineering, and get a head start on your academic journey.

Please reference your Acceptance Packet and this page to see the essential information you need as you prepare to join us. Important dates, program schedules and guidelines, are all here. Remember to regularly check your email for updates and further communication.

Email Communication

Stay updated by checking your emails regularly. Important communications about BRIDGE will come from either engr-bridge@uconn.edu or durga.nyame@uconn.edu. Keep an eye out for these emails as they contain essential information about the program.

Housing

All program participants will be housed in traditional residence halls in the Northwest Quad. The exact hall will be confirmed at the accepted student info session. 

Students will use conference cards to access the residence hall. This card is also loaded with your meal swipes. Keep it safe, you are responsible for it. 

Dining

The Vergnano Institute for Impact provides meals Monday through Sunday. Students will receive a conference card after check-ins on move-in day. This card will be used to enter the dining halls with meal swipes.

Most meals are served at Northwest Dining Hall. Throughout the summer, dining halls open and close on a summer schedule. Please see your accepted students packet for specific details as to where you will be eating each day.

Students have meal swipes for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on weekdays. During off-campus weekend events, catered meals will be provided. The typical hours for weekday meals are:

  • Breakfast; 7:00 – 9:00 AM
  • Lunch: 12:15 – 2:00 PM
  • Dinner: 5:30 – 6:45 PM

Student Move-In

For BRIDGE 2026, Move-in day is on Sunday, June 28th. All program participants must arrive on campus on this day. Check-in at the residence hall is between 8:00am – 12:00pm. Check your email for details on check-in, logistics, and the map of campus. Check-in times are scheduled by last name. If these times don’t work for you, email us for accommodation. For early or late arrivals, contact engr-bridge@uconn.edu.

Packing List

Below is a recommended packing list for BRIDGE students. For additional information and guidelines about what items are allowed in dorms, please view the UConn Campus Housing guidelines.

Dorm Essentials

  • Twin XL bedding (sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blanket/comforter) 
  • Towel set (bath towels, hand towel, washcloth) 
  • Shower caddy + flip-flops for shared bathrooms 
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc.) 
  • Laundry detergent (pods preferred), dryer sheets 
  • Laundry bag or basket 
  • Mattress pad or topper 

Clothing

  • Casual clothes (laundry facilities available) 
  • Undergarments & socks 
  • Pajamas/loungewear 
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (shorts, T-shirts, light sweaters) 
  • Rain jacket/coat
  • Athletic wear, sneakers (for active activities) 
  • 2-3 business casual outfits (for industry tours or presentations) 
  • Semi-formal Attire for Formal Dinner 
  • Beachwear (swimsuit, towel, flip-flops, sun hat, cover-up) 
  • Business casual or dressy-casual attire for Closing Ceremony
  • Sun hat/cap 
  • BRIDGE T-shirts will be provided—leave space in your bag!

Academic Supplies

  • Laptop + charger (required for classes + projects) 
  • Notebook(s), folder, and loose-leaf paper (will be provided if requested) 
  • Pens, pencils, highlighters 
  • Calculators (graphing or scientific recommended) will be provided if you don’t have your own. 
  • Reusable water bottle 
  • Backpack or tote bag for daily use 

Personal Care & Comfort

  • Personal or Handheld fan (rooms are not air-conditioned) 
  • Desk lamp or clip-on reading light 
  • Small first aid kit (band-aids, Tylenol, etc.) 
  • Sunscreen + bug spray (for outdoor activities) 
  • Medications (including allergy meds) 
  • Snacks (non-perishable, dorm-friendly) 
  • Umbrella

Documents

  • UConn Student ID (One Card received during orientation) 
  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Real ID (required for select industry tours) 
  • Permanent Resident Card (if applicable) (required for select industry site access) 
  • Health insurance card (photocopy or digital copy okay) 
  • BRIDGE Welcome Packet printout (or saved on your device) 
  • Emergency contact list 

PROHIBITED ITEMS

  • Candles or Incense 
  • Cooking appliances (mini fridge can be brought) 
  • Pets (unless approved service animal authorized through SHaW) 
  • Large furniture or electronics (gaming consoles are allowed in common areas but not recommended). 

BRIDGE Welcome Ceremony

Our Welcome Ceremony is hosted by the program director and BRIDGE Coaches.This is more than an introduction. It is our way of celebrating your achievement and setting the tone for an incredible five weeks. You will meet your coaches, fellow BRIDGE students, and program staff; learn what to expect; and officially begin your college journey with your new BRIDGE family.

Attendance is required for all students, and the dress code for the ceremony is casual and picture-ready. Parents and guardians are warmly encouraged to attend. If you cannot make it, email engr-bridge@uconn.edu

Mail and Deliveries

Throughout the duration of the program, students are able to recieve deliveries.

Packages

BRIDGE Mail will be delivered directly to the Vergnano Institute for Impact office and forwarded to students once a day during breaks, free time, or study sessions. Please send all mailings and packages to this EXACT address to avoid lost packages.

You MUST include Unit 3187″ on your delivery/package. Please DO NOT mail anything to the residence halls or mailing services (hours for the mailrooms differ in the summer and you may not receive your package).

Food Deliveries

During the program, students can use food delivery apps (Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, Instacart).

All orders must be delivered to the Northwest dorms. When placing an order, adjust your pin on the map so the driver knows where to pull up. 

Please follow these guidelines when picking up food deliveries:

  • Drivers cannot enter the building.
  • Set delivery to “Leave it at my door” and add the building details. 

Student Health and Wellness

Health Services

All BRIDGE students will have access to the Student Health and Wellness Services (SHAW).  This includes Medical Care, Mental Heath Care, and Pharmacy services. Any administered treatment or prescriptions not covered by your insurance will be charged to your student fee bill in the fall.

After-Hours Care 

When Health Services is closed, students will be taken to Urgent Care in Storrs Center. If Urgent Care is closed and students need immediate treatment, they will be taken to Windham Hospital by our Program staff only if the transportation consent form is signed.  Otherwise, an ambulance will be called.

Disability Services

At BRIDGE, we welcome all students preparing to join the UConn STEM community, and are ready to work with students who need need accommodations. To learn more about the Center for Students with Disabilities and the services they provide, please visit their website.

Mandatory Health Insurance

All students are required to have some form of health insurance that provides coverage for accidents and/or illness. Students not covered by a personal or parental insurance policy are advised to purchase Supplemental Student Health Insurance until university insurance plan takes affect at the start of the first semester. Supplement insurance is available by contacting the Bailey Agency at (203) 446-8255.

Student Code of Conduct

RuleWhat it means
1. Program Attendance All classes, labs, supplemental instruction, workshops, and weekend activities are required. Unexcused absences may result in dismissal. 
2. Respect and Boundaries Treat every student, coach and guest with dignity and respect in every capacity. Be mindful of other’s boundaries.
3. Residence Hall Rules Only BRIDGE students, coaches, and approved staff may enter the residence halls. No friends from home, UConn students not in BRIDGE, or family members inside dorms or hallways (with the exception of move-in day). 
4. Curfew Students must be in the residence hall and their assigned dorm by curfew each night. Coaches will communicate specific curfew times.
5. Campus Students must remain on campus (including Storrs Center) during all weekends unless an exception is approved by the director in advance. 
6. Academic IntegrityAll work must be your own. Cheating, plagiarism, or misuse of AI tools is not permitted and may result in dismissal.
7. Responsible Technology Use Phones and devices must be silenced during class. Laptops are for academic use during sessions. Misuse of technology/social media to harm others is prohibited.
8. Substance-Free Program Alcohol, tobacco, vaping, marijuana and illegal substances are strictly prohibited. Violations result in immediate dismissal and parent/guardian notification.
9. Shared SpacesKeep your room, common areas, and classrooms clean and orderly. Do not leave personal items in common areas. Pick after yourself in any shared space. Report any damage immediately. 
10. ID Card Responsibility A Conference card and Husky One Card provides dorm access and meal swipes. You are responsible for keeping it safe. Report loss immediately.
11. Dress Coded Dress appropriately for all program activities. Business casual is required for industry tours and presentations. Semi-formal attire is required for the formal dinner and Closing Ceremony.
12. Communication Standards Use respectful, professional language in all group chats, emails, and interactions with staff. Check your email and group me daily.
13. Emergency Protocols In a serious emergency, call 911 immediately. For non- emergency issues, contact your Group Lead or Program Director Durga Nyame.
14. Prohibited Items Do not bring candles, incense, cooking appliances (mini fridges are allowed), pets (unless an approved service animal), or large furniture. Gaming consoles are allowed in common areas only. 
15. Reporting Concerns If you see someone in your hall who is not a BRIDGE participant or approved staff, notify a coach immediately. Help us keep the community safe.
